Breaking News from Your Local Spiritworkers

The Gods live, the Spirits stir, the Ancestors walk the space between the worlds, and magic is most definitely afoot. The worlds are animated and full of Beings. Some of them large, some of them small, some of the benign, some of them freakin’ frightening, some of them helpful, some of them baneful, and all of them real! Sometimes we Pagans/Witches/Druids/Wiccans/etc. are content to dwell in the pretend place inside our heads where we are in control and nothing can hurt us. That world, while comforting, is not an accurate reflection of reality. There is life outside of humanity and we are responsible for how we relate to those lives, those beings. We are responsible for the bridges we build and the bridges we burn, individually and collectively, in the past, in the present, and in the future. If you don’t know, now you know.

I have been doing my blog rounds around the web and this theme keeps cropping up in various incarnations, whether it be as an angry rant, a new post conveying basic information on belief and practice, or just folks talking in comment threads. It’s nice to know that I am not the only one feeling compelled to speak on this issue. As my awareness of the world around me grows, I frankly find it harder and harder to keep silent about it or overlook it. Ignorance and silence are not the stuff of utopia; they are fuel for the end times. Not to be overly dramatic, but we need to wake up and pay attention on multiple fronts before something nasty is set into motion that we can’t undo with smiles, offerings, and apologies.

You may now return to your regularly scheduled programming. I just felt the need to say that. It’s not new information but it most definitely bears repeating.

  1. Timely. 🙂 I like your interpretation much better than the Christian one going around now (obviously), but I also like knowing that people are being made aware across religious boundaries. While I don’t think the world is ending in a few days (or going through the first steps to end, or whatever) and don’t expect many to take that warning seriously, I hope it at least causes some to think and act for the good of the world.

    • Hi Sanil! When I wrote this post, I was thinking along the lines of relationships with other beings and how it’s kinda inadequate to say “sorry” to the spirit of an animal species that human beings have single-handedly driven to extinction, or even those that we have brought near extinction. I tend to agree that the world is not going to end in a few years or even a few decades but with degrading air and water quality and an atmosphere in trouble, I do not foresee a very good distant future if we continue to tread very heavily on the Earth and neglect the responsibility that comes with being interwoven with so many other lifeforms. I think a shift in awareness/consciousness around these issues is much needed. Just my thought on the matter.
