An Invocation

This was the very first invocation that I ever wrote to Hekate. I was asked to invoke her for our Samhain 2007 ritual (how original :-) ). It was in the first five minutes of sitting down to write the invocation that I realized I did not really know this goddess at all, so I took some time to try and make contact. Basically, I wanted to introduce myself before I went knocking on her metaphysical door with deep spiritual questions and huge requests.

In the heat of the moment, I got out of my chair and started to pace, moving from my study to my living room. I started talking to myself, trying hard to understand her. While talking to myself, I also reached out to her energy in order to establish some sort of line of communication. It was a powerful experience and immediately after it, the words began to flow. What follows are the words that emerged from that energetic meeting.

Invocation to Hekate

Hear us Most High Hekate, Queen of the Black Night, Great Titan, born of Perses, the Destroyer, and Asteria, the Starry One, we invoke thee this Samhain Eve.

Hekate Brimo (the Terrible)! You who bring us face to face with our fear, we invoke thee!

Thea Deinos (Dread Goddess)! You who stand at the threshold of the unseemly truth and bid us enter with Key in hand, we invoke thee!

Hekate Chthonia (of the Underworld)!  You who bring us transformation through decay in the cold, unforgiving earth, we invoke thee!

Anassa Eneroi (Queen of the Dead)! You who claim that which has exceeded its time, we invoke thee!

Hekate Enodia (of the Crossroads)! You who stand Three-Faced waiting at the meeting of roads demanding decision, we invoke thee!

Come upon us Mighty One; you who are both the Darkness itself and the Light-Bearing Guide! We ask that you be with us as we venerate our honored dead. Be with us, Dark Lady, and illuminate the narrow way as we lay down the burdens of the past year and prepare for rebirth into the next.

Hail and Welcome!
